When Plans Go Awry - Christmas and Moving Stress December 29, 2023
When things go wrong, they really go wrong!
Originally, we had planned for Michael's grand piano to be picked up on December 23rd by a specialized moving company. They wanted to load a few more items and transport everything to Denmark. Since the company had calculated two days for the journey, we had arranged for them to arrive here in the far north on December 27th.
We had planned to spend Christmas Eve with my mother and wanted to set off for our new home early in the morning on December 25th.
But then the transport company cancelled - just like that, and this just two days before Christmas. Everything we had planned suddenly became pointless.
We spent Christmas Eve with my mother as planned and did in fact drive to Denmark early in the morning on the 25th. The roads were clear, and we made extraordinarily good progress. I don't think we've ever gotten there that quickly before.
December 26th was meant for resting and recovering. On the 27th, we immediately got on the phone and started organizing, organizing, and organizing some more.
Now it looks like Michael will have to return here with Peter on January 3rd in a van, completely out of the blue. The piano has to get to Denmark somehow, after all.
This is quite problematic because Michael's farewell party was planned for January 6th. And he has no idea about it... This is definitely going to be stressful!
I've always been pretty good at planning. Somehow everything we set out to do is working now, but it's exhausting nonetheless. There's still so much to do, and time is slowly but surely running out.
