Our last week in Germany has begun

The family is making their way to Denmark, escaping in a cloak-and-dagger operation ahead of black ice to Scandinavia. After an exciting drive on the highway and an accident in the dog forest, intensive preparations follow for the final move with all our pets.

Our last week in Germany has begun.

Last week was quite eventful again. Michael spent Tuesday evening with Thomas and his band, while I sat at home on the sofa watching the news.

We had planned to leave early Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM. And then suddenly came the news that black ice would sweep across Germany during the night.

Unfortunately, I couldn't reach Michael by phone. I wanted to ask him to come home immediately so we could leave that evening.

Michael came home at 11:00 PM, he just had time to use the bathroom, and then we were already sitting in our vehicles. Me in the Fiat 500 Cabrio - the convertible top was of course closed - and Michael in the big bus with our Ebbi, who is by now used to traveling. I had to say goodbye to the cats last time. Next time they'd be coming with us.

And so we left just after 11:00 PM. I was so excited that I wasn't even tired. We weren't really rested anyway and had been awake since 8:00 AM. So we went up the highway, over the Kassel mountains, through Hannover, very early in the morning through Hamburg, and at seven o'clock in the morning across the Danish border. Always fleeing ahead of the black ice - and we made it!

We took a short break at the first gas station. When we came back out, there were 20 cm of fresh snow.

We then drove in convoy behind the snowplows and didn't arrive here until 3:00 PM. I really thought I wouldn't make it.

But we did it. The nice thing is that we don't even have to go shopping in the house here or anything. Usually everything is there when we arrive, and so I was able to prepare something small for us to eat, and then we just rested.

The next day in the dog forest I had a little accident and actually dislocated my elbow joint. It's back in now, but it hurt terribly.

I'll have my physio Steffi take another look at it this week. We'll see what she says.

And then we prepared everything for the arrival in a couple of days, when we come here with dog, cat, and everything else.

Saturday we drove back and Sunday morning at 12:00 we were at Frank's 60th birthday party. It was nice to see everyone we know one more time. And now it's time to sort out and plan the remaining things... like getting our Suzuki SJ 410 to North Jutland as safely and quickly as possible ...

I really thought I wouldn't make it.
