A Mix of Excitement and Goodbye

Our family has signed the purchase agreement for our house in Denmark and we're now in an emotional phase between excitement and farewell. We're clearing things out, saying goodbye to our old home, and preparing ourselves for the new adventure on Denmark's east coast with our pets.

A Mix of Excitement and Goodbye 14. August 2023

Everything is happening so fast. We've signed the purchase agreement for the house in Denmark online. With one click, it's sealed - our new life on the east coast. Now we have a week to sort everything out with the bank, and within ten days at the latest, we need to have paid for the house in Denmark. Things just work differently here than they do in Germany - faster, more digital, more straightforward.

Over the last few days, I've been throwing something away every single day to make things easier for us. But honestly, I still need to throw away much, much, much, much more. We can't take all of this with us. It's amazing how many things pile up over the years - things you "might need again someday." I've also already scheduled a bulk waste pickup, and we've gone through once to see what has to go. Every single item I give away feels like both liberation and loss at the same time.

The realtor in Germany is putting a bit of pressure on and wants to show interested buyers around, but it feels so strange to me right now. I really don't want anyone here. Not ready yet to see strangers walking through my rooms, imagining themselves living here.

Everything in my head is jumbled right now - excitement about Denmark and yet homesickness for Germany, even though we still live here. It's a strange feeling to already be halfway elsewhere in my thoughts.

Yes, and Maya's death, our old dog, really hit me hard. On the other hand, it's good that she's no longer with us - she wouldn't have coped with all of this. She was always so loyal, and I think it would have been too much for her. She was so connected to this house. Sometimes I still think I can hear her paws on the parquet floor.

Now we still have Ebbi, Mieze, Beppo, and Boudelair. Two people, one dog, and three cats are heading into the adventure. I hope our furry friends will settle well into their new home. It'll be a big adjustment for them too.

The days are flying by, and sometimes I don't know which way is up. Packing, clearing out, organizing, saying goodbye. But then I think about the sea view we'll soon have, and I know what we're doing all this for.

It's a strange feeling to already be halfway elsewhere in my thoughts.
