Between Doubt and New Beginnings April 28, 2023
My feelings swing like a pendulum, and sometimes I wonder if it's normal to feel so torn. The decision to move abroad is like an emotional roller coaster that challenges me anew every single day.
It becomes especially clear when we drive to the adult education center. There, surrounded by Dorte and our newly made friends, everything suddenly seems crystal clear. The thought of staying here fades, and the future abroad appears as the only right path. But the moment I'm back home, doubt creeps in, and the idea of leaving feels foreign and frightening.
Until now, we've kept our plans like a well-guarded secret—we only talk openly about it at the adult education center. Today, however, I took an important step and confided in my best friend Andrea. She knows me better than anyone, and as always, she read my thoughts before I could even fully voice them. Her reaction was so typically Andrea: no dramatic exclamations, no attempt to talk me out of it. Instead, her calm, pragmatic way of seeing things as they are.
"You'll be happy there," she said with that unshakeable conviction in her voice. She reminded me how many times I've already made a fresh start, how many times I've already turned my life upside down—and how I've come out stronger from every change.
Yes, it's a risk. But as they say: nothing ventured, nothing gained. Absolute excitement? No, I don't feel that. But deep inside, the conviction is growing that this is right. Maybe that's even better than blind enthusiasm—this quiet certainty that I'll master this challenge too, like so many before it.
