Should I really emigrate? January 26, 2023
I'm sitting here, looking around my house and letting my thoughts flow freely. My gaze falls on the things that are so familiar to me - all the little treasures that have accumulated over the years. The garden, which looks rather dreary now in winter, still awakens memories of summer when it was in full bloom. The sight makes me think.
Should I really go? Should I really emigrate? This question keeps coming back to me. Michael is completely in the flow, he's excited about the move, about the new, about the unknown. He already has clear ideas and wants to go far up to the very north of Denmark. The thought of it seems to inspire him.
And me? I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm tempted by the idea of experiencing something new, living in a different place, in a different culture, perhaps closer to nature. On the other hand, I feel so secure here in my familiar surroundings. Being close to my home, the small things that connect me to this region - all of that is not something I can simply let go of.
I've considered maybe living near the border, but I'm not sure if I want to go that far north. After all, my cousin lives on the German side, just a few kilometers from the Danish border. If I were to decide to emigrate, it would probably not be more than 100 kilometers from the border. But that feels difficult too.
I'm wavering back and forth. On the one hand, I'm drawn to the idea of change and a new chapter, on the other hand, I have concerns about leaving my familiar surroundings. It feels like an inner conflict, between the longing for something new and the security of the familiar. How am I supposed to decide?
