One year after moving to Denmark: A couple reflects on their decision to leave life in Germany behind and put down roots in Denmark.

September 27, 2024

It's been almost a year now since we held the keys to our wonderful house in Denmark in our hands. It's hard to believe how quickly the time has passed—and how much has changed in this year.

We are happy. And with each passing day, we feel it more strongly: we made the right decision. Our life here feels good and right. Whenever we glance back at Germany, read the news, or follow developments there, we're often shocked and bewildered. So much of what once felt familiar to us there now feels foreign.

Precisely for this reason, we feel a deep gratitude to be here in Denmark. The language is making progress—slowly, but steadily. We understand more and more, get to know new people, participate in public life, go to church, attend events. We've arrived.

It's a beautiful feeling to be able to share this.

And yes—it sometimes hurts to see how much we've grown inwardly distant from a country that was once home. But it's precisely this that makes us aware of how right our new path is.

We are happy. And with each passing day, we feel it more strongly: we made the right decision.
