Like Time-Lapse – Our Path to Denmark

The move to Denmark is picking up speed: the sale of our house in Germany is progressing surprisingly quickly, a German-speaking lawyer in Denmark is supporting us with the purchase contract, and the anticipation grows with each passing day.

And then things really got moving! The mortgage broker from our bank came by, took photos, and brought us the wonderful news that he already has an interested buyer lined up. Someone he knows is looking for exactly what I'm selling here. I honestly didn't expect things to move this fast – just a week after our meeting with the bank!

At the same time, we got in touch with a lawyer in Denmark who is German, lives in Germany, but works at a law firm in Denmark. It's wonderful. She's very nice and hopefully competent too. But the best part is that we can speak really good German with her! That makes the whole process so much easier and takes some of the nervousness away.

We've already had a conversation with her, and it went really well. She'll request all the documents, and then we'll go through everything together next week before signing the purchase contract online. Online! In a digital backwater like Germany, that would be unthinkable! But in Denmark, they're already so far ahead... This efficiency impresses me and makes me a little nervous at the same time – is everything really being considered?

It does still hurt a little bit to be selling my beautiful house here in Germany. When I walk through the rooms, memories come flooding back. Every corner tells a story. But at the same time, I have butterflies in my stomach and I'm looking forward to Denmark. To new stories that will unfold there. To ocean air and new neighbors. To a different life.

The decision is made, the train is rolling at full steam – and I notice how my initial doubts are slowly giving way to anticipation. Next week we'll be signing a purchase contract. For a house in another country. Sometimes I can hardly believe how quickly everything has developed.

Now it's time to pack boxes and say goodbye.
