Midsummer's Eve with My Danish Class

A magical Midsummer's Eve with friends from my Danish course becomes unforgettable. Singing the traditional midsummer song together and emotional moments by the fire shape the evening.

Midsummer's Eve with My Danish Class June 20, 2023

Last night, we experienced a truly magical Midsummer's Eve together with our friends from the Danish course at the folk high school. It was a celebration that will stay with all of us for a long time to come.

Daniel and Mona were our hosts, and what they pulled together was simply overwhelming. You could feel their dedication and love in every detail — from the thoughtful decorations to the perfect organization of the evening. These are exactly the special moments that fill the heart to the brim with gratitude and joy.

Particularly moving was the time by the fire. We gave speeches, shared stories and memories. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly when we all sang together the traditional midsummer song by Holger Drachmann from 1853. The melody drifted through the summer night, and for a moment we all felt united in this Danish tradition.

Now I'm sitting here, just a few hours before we leave. Tonight at 8 p.m., we're heading off to Denmark. My feelings are mixed, and there's a certain heaviness in my heart. Perhaps it's the mixture of anticipation and the pain of saying goodbye that has me feeling reflective. The memories from last night will certainly accompany me on this journey — like a warm glow in my soul.

Midsummer's Eve showed us once again how precious our community in the Danish course has become. It was the perfect conclusion before our paths separate for a while. Tak for alt, dear friends. Until we meet again.

These are exactly the special moments that fill the heart to the brim with gratitude and joy.
