Season's End in Skagen: My First Time as a Tour Guide

After my first season as a tour guide in Skagen, I'm reflecting on intense weeks, wonderful guests, and how much I've changed—calmer, more at ease, and finally home.

Season's End in Skagen: My First Time as a Tour Guide 4. November 2025

Done! My first season as a tour guide in Skagen is behind me—and what a season it was!

Yes, there were moments when I really pushed myself to my limits. The training was intense, the first weeks demanding, and sometimes I was just exhausted by the end of the day. But it was worth it. Every single minute.

What an incredible gift it is to be able to show people this unique place! Skagen—where the North Sea and Baltic Sea meet, where the wind tells stories and the dunes seem endless. Day after day, I got to guide guests from Germany and overseas through my new home, and every time felt special.

The walks through the dunes, the sand beneath my feet, the salty wind on my face—and then those moments: when my guests' eyes begin to light up. When they marvel. When they understand why this place is so special. That was the most beautiful feeling in the world! Most of them were truly enthusiastic, and their joy filled me with energy every single time.

It's almost two years now that I've been up here, at the northernmost tip of Denmark. And with the end of this first season came an inevitable moment of pause. Time for the big questions: Who have I become? What has changed?

Have I perhaps become so Danish that I no longer understand my former compatriots?

The answer is probably: Yes. At least a little bit.

That excitement, that urgency and haste that belongs so much to everyday life in Germany—here in Denmark, it's simply far away. The Danes don't know it, they don't live it. And I've stopped being excited too.

I've become quieter. More at ease. More peaceful.

The humor hasn't been lost, nor the charm (I hope!). But something fundamental has changed: This deep inner peace that I experience here has taken hold of me. It has moved into me, settled inside me, and made me quieter, more balanced, more peaceful.

And the best part? I feel good about it. I feel at home here, in this place between the seas.

I've found my way home—to my new homeland.

What a first season! I feel gratitude for every moment, every encounter, every windy day in the dunes. And I'm looking forward with anticipation to what the future holds for me here in Skagen.

I've found my way home—to my new homeland.
