After the Road Trip: The Heart Knows Where It Belongs

After two weeks in Sweden and Norway, the family approaches the Øresund Bridge and realizes: Denmark feels like home. While Sweden was beautiful, Denmark has won their heart.

After the Road Trip: The Heart Knows Where It Belongs September 18, 2022

The last two weeks have been like a gift. Sweden enchanted us with its wild beauty, endless forests, and crystal-clear lakes. We even ventured into Norway—a highlight we wouldn't have wanted to miss. In Skjærhallen, a picturesque little town nestled in a small fjord, directly across from our beloved Skagen, we made a stop.

It was one of those magical moments when we met an artist in a small gallery who immediately started raving about Skagen. About that special light that attracts painters from all over the world, about the unique atmosphere. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and we caught ourselves nodding along, confirming her words—as if we'd already become seasoned Skagen experts.

Now, as we approach the Øresund Bridge, the feelings become strangely intense. Sweden was beautiful, no question about it. The people were friendly, the landscape breathtaking, and yet... it didn't captivate us quite the way we perhaps expected it to. Not like Denmark.

It's almost a bit embarrassing how excited we are to have Danish soil beneath our feet again. Like children finally coming home after a long vacation. Wait a minute—did I just think "coming home"?

The bridge draws closer, and with every kilometer, this strange anticipation grows. Maybe that's exactly it: sometimes you have to go somewhere else to realize where you actually belong. Sweden is the country everyone dreams about, but Denmark? Denmark is the country where we feel at home.

The Øresund Bridge connects not just two countries—for us, it might connect present and future. A future we couldn't have imagined just a few weeks ago. But sometimes it's precisely these unplanned turns that make life so exciting.

Farwell Sweden, hello again Denmark!

Sometimes you have to go somewhere else to realize where you actually belong.
