A Weekend Full of Friendship, Sea, and Danish Coziness

A visit from my long-time friend becomes an unforgettable weekend filled with shared moments by the sea and Danish coziness.

A Weekend Full of Friendship, Sea, and Danish Coziness 26. October 2025

My dear friend and former neighbor has been visiting since Thursday. We haven't seen each other for over a year - and yet it feels as though not a single day has passed. That's probably exactly what true friendship is all about: you simply pick up where you left off, without any need for a warm-up period.

It was wonderful to finally hold each other in our arms again, to be more than just connected through messages or video calls. That closeness, the shared laughter, the familiar conversations - I missed all of that so much.

On Friday, we set off to explore the west coast a bit. Wind in our faces, salty air, and that feeling of freedom you only get by the sea - it was magnificent! And on Saturday, we had a fish buffet planned here at home. Fantastic! I really can't recommend Mimis in Strandby highly enough - the seafood couldn't be fresher, and the selection was simply amazing.

The weather did throw us a curveball, but that didn't stop us. After dinner, we simply threw on our rain jackets, pulled on our rubber boots, and walked several kilometers along the sea - here on our beautiful east coast. It was wonderful, the wind, the waves, the laughter - everything came together perfectly.

Later, by the fireplace with tea and hot chocolate, we let the evening wind down cozily - exactly the way you do it in Denmark: pure hygge.

And today, on Sunday, there was one more real highlight: we visited Brøndums Hotel in Skagen. Together with my colleagues from the cruise ship terminal, we took part in a small gathering there. First came the legendary cake in the garden café (and yes, it really is as good as everyone says!), and afterwards a wonderful colleague gave us a tour through this historically significant hotel. We really got to immerse ourselves in the time of the painters' and artists' colony - it was an incredibly impressive experience.

That's probably exactly what true friendship is all about: you simply pick up where you left off, without any need for a warm-up period.

💡 Restaurant Recommendation on the West Coast

Mimis in Strandby is highly recommended - the seafood couldn't be fresher, and the selection at the fish buffet is fantastic.
