June 20, 2025 - Between the Seas

A personal account of the challenges and deep fulfillment of living in Denmark—between effort and beauty.

June 20, 2025 - Between the Seas

Denmark doesn't hand you anything.

And yet—it gives you so much.

Here you have to buckle down.

Really buckle down.

Dig in. Get to work.

Keep going, even when you're tired, even when you doubt.

Nothing is served up, nothing graciously handed over.

Here it's: Do it yourself. Find your own way. Grow from it.

Sometimes you barely know which way is up.

You're juggling unfamiliar structures, different expectations, personal responsibility that back in Germany was still cushioned for you.

Here you're entirely on your own.

And that can be hard.

Exhausting.

Lonely.

There are days when you want to scream.

Kick against the wall.

Or just slam the door behind you and say: "I can't do this anymore."

Because it's all too much.

Because you no longer believe in yourself.

But then—

you stand by the sea.

Maybe by the Kattegat. Maybe by the Skagerrak.

Maybe somewhere in between, where the two meet in silence.

You feel the wind on your face, the sun on your neck, the sand beneath your feet.

You look into the vast sky, into that endless blue that stretches over everything like a quiet promise.

And suddenly you know again why you're here.

Why you keep going. Why you buckle down.

Because it's worth it.

Because this country doesn't hand you anything—and that's exactly why it's so precious.

It gives you honesty.

Space.

Silence.

It gives you the feeling of being yourself. Without a mask. Without a safety net.

Just you.

This is my home.

Not because it's easy.

But because it's true.

Because this country doesn't hand you anything—and that's exactly why it's so precious.
