On August 10th, our little town hosted its harbor festival – and it was simply a wonderful day. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was warm and lively. From the morning on, so many people came together: locals, visitors, young and old. There was playing, laughing, and celebrating life together – with water games in the harbor basin, skill games, delicious food, coffee, and performances from local clubs.
But the real highlight came in the evening: Our friend Karsten brought a singer out onto the harbor basin on a raft. It was already dark when she stood on the water, accompanied by a fire basket. Suddenly, everything went quiet. And then her voice filled the harbor. It was a magical moment. Her songs moved us deeply, and soon everyone was singing along. For me, this moment embodied hygge: experiencing something together, feeling connected, being there for one another.
Then Sunday morning arrived: a church service in the harbor. Every seat was taken. The pastor stood in the open air while a fishing cutter unloaded its catch in the background. The sun was shining, and we celebrated together – with each other, in the same spirit once again. Afterward, we shared a meal together.
This is my Denmark. And here I feel exactly where I belong.
